Was visiting the area and decided to train. Everyone was very welcoming and some of the students helped to translate. Good techniques and fun rolls. Will visit again
I highly recommend the Gracie Barra Copacabana Jiu-Jitsu school. I was visiting the Copacabana area of Rio de Janeiro for about 12 days and wanted to take Jiu-Jitsu based self defense classes during my stay. I did not contact any of the schools prior to my arrival because I wanted to get the lay of the land and see the schools first hand prior to committing. I am from the United States and speak zero Portuguese. I also have zero Jiu-Jitsu or self defense training. As such I was a little apprehensive about just showing up at these schools, not really knowing what to expect. After meeting with Guilherme Paixao at Gracie Barra, I was totally at ease and ready to go. Guilherme speaks pretty good English and we didn’t have difficulty communicating. Guilherme was able to accommodate my request of 5 daily one-on-one classes for one hour each day (Monday – Friday), starting the same day we first met. The pricing was very reasonable, and the classes were never rushed. Guilherme is an excellent teacher in that he communicated the concepts very well and also listened to my feedback regarding the particular thinks I wanted to learn or spend more time on. The school itself is a good facility; clean, in a good building, and in a good location/safe area, etc. If you are looking for Jiu-Jitsu/self defense training in the Rio area, I highly recommend Guilherme Paixao at the Gracie Barra Copacabana School.
